After the success of the 2017 BOM, Down the Rabbit Hole, I am so excited to introduce the 2018 quilts, Simple Folk and The Grasshopper. Yes! I have two this year! Do one or both. These classic, whimsical quilts will translate well to modern or traditional fabrics. There will be the option of different borders. 

What is a Sarah Fielke BOM?

Unlike most Blocks of the Month, a Sarah Fielke BOM starts from a hand drawn sketch. Each month a new section of the quilt is revealed through PDF patterns and instructional videos, hosted on a private website. The delivery format allows you to work with your own fabric, meaning your quilt will be a reflection of your personal style and colour taste - and it saves on shipping! Work through the quilt at your own pace with help from Sarah, while chatting and sharing with other quilters through a private Facebook group.

BOM 2018 Quilt 2 : The Grasshopper (Finished quilt size: 60inch (152cm))

I love to work on hand stitching projects. I always have something going by machine but hand stitching is so portable and able to be done anywhere in small amounts. This quilt is an adventure into hand piecing, hand applique and hand quilting. Dont worry if you think you can't keep up - it is the journey that matters, grasshopper.

  • ALL HAND WORK- experienced quilters will be able to machine piece the blocks in this quilt if they want to, however, instruction for this quilt is all intended for hand work. This is an intensive course into making a quilt that is almost completely hand finished. There will be a small amount of machine stitching at the end of the program.

BOM Details to help answer some of your questions

This subscription is for:
  • a 12 month BOM program, which consists of 12 monthly patterns, and 12 corresponding instructional videos for Simple Folk quilt design starting Jan 2018
  • OR a 7 month BOM program, which consists of 7 monthly patterns, and 7 corresponding instructional videos for The Grasshopper quilt design starting Feb 2018.
  • OR both together
You can either choose to pay upfront now or pay off the amount over 12 or 7 months depending on where you choose the 12month, 7month or bundle program. You will start to pay off the amount upon joining. Some members will find they have finished paying off before the BOM has finished but you will still have access to all the content even if you finish paying early.

After subscribing, on the LAST DAY of each month you will receive an email to notify you that the PDF pattern including any printable templates and the intructional video that are needed for that month's portion of the quilt construction. The first month's pattern/video will be delivered January 31, 2018 for Simple Folk, and Feb 28 2018 for The Grasshopper.

If you are an existing BOM 2016 or 2017 member or use the website to view other purchase patterns, you don't need to set up your registration. Damian will just turn on access to the new pages for you.

Participants are able to join in at any time throughout the year, and the patterns/videos already released will be available to you all at once. However if you join AFTER January 15 the option of paying month by month, and discount code for 2017 members will no longer be available. 

On signing up you will be sent an email with background information to get you going and about mid-December you will receive an email regarding the material requirements, color planner and optional notions kit that will be available for the quilt. This is a one off posted kit available worldwide. There will be nothing else with postage attached to it for the BOM - there is NO fabric provided for this BOM. Notions kits will be posted mid-January.

These quilts are exclusive to BOM members until after the program finishes, at which time the full quilt patterns will be available for purchase retail, and for wholesale to shops. The 2018 BOM is ONLY available through my website for the first year. It is NOT available through quilt shops or any other website until the program has ended.

These designs are brand new original Sarah Fielke designs and have not been seen anywhere else before. Quite obviously from looking at the sketch, it will not be able to be worked in the usual manner of a "Block of the Month" - i.e., you will not receive 12 blocks, one at a time. This quilt will be parcelled out in 12 or 7 packages over the year, working from the centre out in border order. 
Also stating the obvious - these are two quilts that requires a fair amount of work to complete! However there will be people stitching at all different paces and abilities, and people joining up at all different times throughout the year, and there is no pressure to be at the same point as anyone else.
